Haiti- Relief Provided

Donations to the Haiti Relief Fund
The Christ Church community continues to respond with great generosity to the urgent needs in Haiti.  To date we have received more than $96,000 in donations for the Haiti Disaster Fund which will be used for immediate and intermediate needs following the January 12 earthquake.  Nearly 300 families, churches, and organizations have made contributions including 22% of donors coming from outside this parish.  The geographic distribution of the 22% of non-member donors is represented below:

The Use of the Haiti Relief Fund
Christ Church continues to engage with several distinct entities serving the people of Haiti.  We continue serving and supporting through our Diocesan involvement, particular ministry partners, and historical relationships.  Thus far, the Haiti Relief Funds have been disbursed to the following organizations:

More Information about Our Ministry Partners:
Partners In Health/ Bread & Water Relief Fund: This is a fund organized by the World Mission Committee of the Episcopal diocese of Upper South Carolina and managed by Partners In Health (Boston) for the provision of water to Cange and the support of the agricultural vocational school at Corporant.  Both before and after the earthquake, these projects were identified as the highest priority for the long-term health and sustainability of Cange.

Zamni Agrikol (Partners in Agriculture): This is the agricultural arm of Zamni Lasante and grew out of the Haiti Horticulture project that Gillaine Warne, a Christ Church parishioner, started 5 years ago.  Their new program of cultivation aims for a sustainable food source for the area within the next several months as the humanitarian crisis deepens.  Read the February 23 Wall Street Journal article for more information.

Eglise Bon Saveur: This is the church at the center of Cange led by Fr. Lafontant.  Small contributions have been made to the relief effort through the generosity of this parish as it is hosting the medical teams and refugees flooding Cange.

St. Simeon:  In recognition of the longstanding relationship between this parish and St. Simeon in Croix de Bouquets, outside Port au Prince, we have supplied Fr. Valdema with small contributions to support the relief work underway there.
